Kiki and I met this week and practiced speaking through conversation. We had a really fascinating talk about China and Chinese perspectives: the one child policy, general thoughts on climate change, general thoughts on our election and political system, and the narratives around the Ukrainian and Israel-Palestine wars. It was so interesting to hear Kiki's thoughts on all of this, and the ways in which her thoughts are informed by both Chinese and American media. I shared general American viewpoints with her as well, and I told her about some common practices here that she found very surprising. We spoke for about an hour and a half, and I was very impressed with how quickly and effortlessly she can respond to me. She made very few grammatical errors and no errors that impeded my ability to understand her. The pace of our conversation was much quicker than at the beginning of our sessions, as she used to have to pause much more to think of certain words or sentence formations.
